Steven Reynolds
ICU PHYSICIAN, PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR
Dr. Reynolds is an actively practicing critical care physician and Site Medical Director at Royal Columbian Hospital and holds Associate Clinical Professorship at Simon Fraser University. His unique perspective as an ICU physician and an experienced researcher provides strong mentorship to his graduate students aiming to make a difference in the lives of critically ill patients.
Elizabeth Rohrs
RESPIRATORY THERAPIST, PHD
Elizabeth joined the Respiratory Therapy department at Royal Columbian Hospital in 2009 and has worked extensively proving mechanical ventilation management to both neonatal and adult patients. With a Ph.D. in respiratory therapy, she stands among the select few in British Columbia and Canada who have achieved this distinction. As the Academic Research Lead at the Advancing Innovation in Medicine Research Institute, Elizabeth fosters research capacity and facilitates clinical-academic partnerships. She also holds the esteemed position of Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Journal of Respiratory Therapy, where she contributes to advancing research knowledge in the respiratory therapy community nationally and internationally.
Marlena Ornowska
PHD CANDIDATE
Marlena is completing her PhD degree at Simon Fraser University, studying the efficacy of a novel technology in preventing hospital-acquired infections and complications. Her PhD thesis involves the completion of a multi-centered, randomized, controlled trial investigating the use of 4% EDTA as a locking fluid for the prevention of central venous access device complications.
Karl Fernandez
RESPIRATORY THERAPIST, PHD CANDIDATE
Karl is working as a Respiratory Therapist at Royal Columbian Hospital and St. Paul's Hospital, as well as pursuing his PhD at SFU by studying diaphragmatic function and muscle fiber composition in mechanically ventilated patients. Upon degree completion, Karl will join Liz as one of the few RT/PhD's in British Columbia and in Canada.
Jessica Wittmann
Jessica is a Clinical Research Coordinator and Data Coordinator. She provides assistance with all research activities and select analysis and data management.
Michelle Nicholas
CARDIAC NURSE, PHD CANDIDATE
Michelle works asspecialized registered nurse in the cardiac ICU at Royal Columbian Hospital. Since obtaining her MSc. at Cardiff University, she is applying her academic and clinical expertise to complete a PhDat Simon Fraser University studying a novel, digital therapeutic, non-pharmacological treatment for delirium experienced by critical care patients. Michelle is also completing research involving cardiac function during prolonged mechanical ventilation and incidence of pleural effusions following cardiac surgery.
